Effective Listening

 This week was all about listening effectively. Recently, I began working in a fourth grade classroom. I have 16 extremely talkative 9 year olds. They all love appreciative listening, however they all talk over one another and it becomes very hard to listen to just one student. I loved this topic because I have been struggling these past 2 weeks with my students. There are so many new school rules and adjustments being made due to Covid. My students are very upset with all the new rules and I truly do feel bad for them it has been very hard adjusting to all the rules. Because of all the new Covid rules, my students attitudes have made a drastic change. Every time we leave our classroom, my students are being told to social distance and they are not allowed to play with their friends in other classes, and they are not allowed to play with any toys at recess. Week 2

  https://youtu.be/D9Ihs241zeg   I’ve seen this Ted Talk twice in two separate education courses at Trinity. I think this particular speech is so powerful and meaningful to everyone. It relates to how cultures are seen and perceived throughout the world and in education. The woman who is giving the speech uses humor and she really connects to her audience. Her eye contact and gestures are relaxed and she instantly captures your attention the minute she begins her speech.  This speech is very important and can help educators dive deeper and take a closer look at the resources they are using and what they are providing for their students. Another reason I love this speech is because it reminds everyone to tell their own story. Everyone is so different, but telling your story to the world can help open the minds of others and it can help make the world a better place.

Week 1

 An "Aha" moment I had over the past week was the importance of spelling and writing. I was looking over the power point and could. not believe all of the misspelled signs that were included. I particularly loved the Groj Sale sign. I took a picture and sent it in my family group chat. As a young student, I loved spelling. I will always remember winning the Spelling Bee in second grade. Recently in my education courses at Trinity, I had to write a paper and research the importance of grammar and how grammar is taught today. Grammar is not necessarily a subject in todays classrooms, rather it is incorporated through reading and writing activities. Spelling Bees have been taken out of classrooms today. The research I found was that teachers should not incorporate Spelling Bees because it can make students become anxious and afraid to participate because all eyes our on them during a spelling bee.
